Donna Vekić

Professional tennis player

Active professional tennis player with the best ranking so far WTA 19. Donna is the winner of three WTA titles, Kuala Lumpur 2014, Nottingham 2017, and Courmayeur 2021. Since 2012 she is playing for the Croatian women's tennis team. Throughout her professional career, Donna has nurtured the importance of the team around her, and together with them managed to achieve numerous sporting and business achievements. She continuously encourages the development of tennis among young people through the initiative to build public tennis courts in Croatia.

Donna Vekić is one of the most recognizable Croatian athletes in the world. In her ten-year professional career on the WTA Tour, Donna has been constantly building her success story on the field. In Croatia, she became the most popular athlete in the country, judging by the numbers on social networks and her contribution and humanitarian initiatives in her hometown of Osijek. She launched a project to build public tennis courts, where two courts have already been built in Osijek-Baranja County as part of humanitarian events.

Donna’s fan base includes more than 400,000 followers who are highly engaged through tennis, everyday life, and passions off the tennis court. She is a modest, persistent, ambitious young person who is versatile and successful both in the field and as an off-field entrepreneur. She is the owner of the DNNA brand of luxury interior fragrances.

She is especially connected with hotels, where she spends time because of her travels, and she wants to provide all guests with professional tennis access, which she also enjoys with her team.

Dario Novak

Dr. Dario Novak is an assistant professor at the University of Zagreb, Croatia. He received his Ph.D. in sports science from University of Zagreb in 2010. He is a postdoctoral fellow of Columbia University, New York and Harvard University, Boston. Doctor Novak’s research interests lie in integrated and holistic approaches in the field of health & performance in tennis.

An editor of one book and author of over 200 publications in scientific and sports journals, Doctor Novak has offered several keynote and invited presentations, and over 50 conference paper presentations. He has received both the FIEP Europe Thulin Award 2011 from the International Federation of Physical Education (FIEP Europe) and International FIEP Cross of Honor Award from the International Federation of Physical Education (FIEP World).

In 2017 was recognized by the FIEP Mexico at Mexico City where he has received the Medalla Prof. Adolfo Pérez Acosta as an outstanding scholar for his contributions to educational research. In addition, he was the recipient of the 2015, 2016 and 2017 University of Zagreb, Faculty of Kinesiology, Best Young Scientists Award. In 2018 the National Science Awards Committee, formed by the Croatian Parliament, has selected Doctor Novak for precious Annual Award for Junior Researcher. It is granted to the outstanding young scientists in recognition of their scientific and research activities. In 2019 he received the Ambassador of Physical Education Award for human health and performance promotion. He was part of Donna Vekic's coaching team (best ranking #21 in the world WTA), Christina McHale's coaching team (best ranking #24 in the world WTA) as well as part of Marta Kostyuk's coaching team (#2 in the world in ITF Juniors & 2017 Australian Open girls’ singles championships).

Currently, he is part of Elena Rybakina’s coaching team (best ranking #12 in the world WTA). In the past Dr. Novak has also worked with Borna Coric (#1 in the world in ITF Juniors) and Ivana Jorovic (#1 in the world in ITF Juniors) among many others. He worked as a consultant with a number of teams and organizations including Bosnia & Herzegovina national basketball team.

Nick Horvat

MA (Tennis), MBA

Nick is a tennis coach and sports consultant. He achieved his greatest coaching results with Donna winning the WTA title in Nottingham in 2017. His daily research is focused on the fundamental principles of the development of world-class tennis players. Some of his work has been published on his website, as well as in NY Tennis Magazine and UK Tennis Magazine.

He has worked with many elite tennis players, including Mario Ančić, Donna Vekić, Borna Ćorić, and Timea Babos, who have reached the level of achievements such as Davis Cup titles, Olympic medals, Grand Slam finals, and first places in world rankings. He is currently working with Japanese racket company YONEX as a consultant in recruiting and talent development. His daily research focuses on the fundamental principles of world-class tennis player development. Nick was one of the best junior tennis players in Croatia, representing his country at several worlds and European championships. He has a master's degree in sports science from the University of Zagreb, an MBA from the Cotrugli Business School, and is a certified health coach at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in New York.
